Japan&#039;s Chief Cabinet Secretary has stressed that preparations to hold the 2025 World Exposition in Osaka should proceed as scheduled, even after the January 1 earthquake.
                
Hayashi Yoshimasa made the remarks at a news conference on Tuesday when asked about the possibility of postponing the event following the tremors that struck central Japan.
                
Hayashi said the Expo, which is scheduled to open in April next year, will provide a great opportunity to show the attractions of Japan to the world. He said it would promote Japan&#039;s growth and activate the country. He said those points remain unchanged.
                
Hayashi was asked about the government&#039;s response if extra costs become necessary for the Expo.
He noted that Prime Minister Kishida Fumio had affirmed there is no plan to approve additional costs for venue construction. Hayashi said an expert panel will conduct a strict check so that there will be no deviation from the plan. He added that he hopes all relevant parties will continue to work together to prepare for the Expo&#039;s April 2025 opening.
                
He refrained from commenting on whether comedian Matsumoto Hitoshi, who has been reportedly involved in a sexual harassment scandal, would continue to serve as a 2025 Expo Ambassador.
                
Matsumoto&#039;s agency announced this week that he will suspend his show business activities to prepare for a possible court battle to deny the allegations.
                
Hayashi said he believes the association for the Expo, which appointed Matsumoto as an ambassador, will properly deal with the matter.
