US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has stressed that his country will accelerate efforts to help Ukraine restore its infrastructure damaged by Russian missile attacks. Blinken spoke to reporters in Bucharest on Wednesday after a NATO conference. He said that over the past several weeks Russia has bombed more than a third of Ukraine's energy system, plunging millions into cold and darkness as frigid temperatures set in. He said heating, water and electricity for children, the elderly and the sick are Russian President Vladimir Putin's new targets. Blinken said Putin's strategy "has not and will not work." He said the US and its allies "will continue to prove him wrong." Blinken announced on Tuesday an energy assistance package worth 53 million dollars to help Ukraine acquire power grid equipment. It will include distribution transformers, circuit breakers and vehicles. Blinken said US officials are also studying ways to strengthen air defense for critical energy infrastructure in Ukraine.
