Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban says former US President Donald Trump has indicated that he will cut off aid to Ukraine if he returns to the presidency.
Orban met Trump in the United States on Friday.
Orban talked about the meeting in an interview with Hungarian television on Sunday. He said Trump told him that the former president "will not give a penny into the Ukraine-Russia war and therefore the war will end."
He also said, "It is obvious that Ukraine on its own cannot stand on its feet." The prime minister added, "If the Americans do not give money the Europeans are unable to finance this war on their own, and then the war will end."
Orban is known for his pro-Russia stance despite Hungary's membership in the European Union.
He has stoked controversy by opposing and delaying implementation of the EU's massive financial support for Ukraine, and has openly expressed support for Trump.
Trump's suggestion that he would cut off aid to Ukraine is likely to cause repercussions amid reports of donor fatigue among European countries.
