Nineteen Japanese nationals suspected of running phone scams targeting people in Japan have been deported from Cambodia. Tokyo police obtained arrest warrants for the men, who are aged between 25 and 55. About 50 officers flew to Cambodia on Monday and the suspects were arrested onboard the aircraft bringing them back to Japan. The group is believed to have operated from a hotel room in the southern city of Sihanoukville. Investigative sources suspect the group swindled the equivalent of about 1,900 dollars from a Tokyo resident in her 60s in January. The group is believed to have sent a fake text message warning the woman she was behind on a payment for an online service.
