In the men's soccer World Cup, defending champion France came out on top against Poland by 3 goals to 1. Two goals from star striker Kylian Mbappe put the pre-tournament favorite into the quarterfinals. Mbappe's strikes added to his three goals in the group stage to make him the leading scorer in Qatar. The first half closed with a pass from Mbappe that put Olivier Giroud through on goal. Mbappe himself added the second on 74 minutes. The 23-year-old scored again in stoppage time, giving him five goals for the tournament so far. The day's other match saw England up against Senegal. 2018 Golden Boot winner Harry Kane found the net for the first time this tournament. A move started by Kane in the 38th-minute put Jordan Henderson in to open the scoring. The England skipper's goal just before the end of the first half saw the 29-year-old finally break his duck at this tournament. England's 3-0 win puts it in the final eight for the second time in a row. England will face France in the next match.
