A town at the foot of Mount Fuji says it will replace a screen to block the view of the mountain over a convenience store with one made of stronger material. This comes after multiple holes were found in the cover initially installed. The town of Fujikawaguchiko in Yamanashi Prefecture set up a black mesh screen along the sidewalk around the store last week. Many tourists flock there with some crossing the busy road and entering private property without permission to take photos. But about 10 holes of around 1 centimeter in diameter were later found in the screen. The holes were large enough to take smartphone photos of the scenery. Fujikawaguchiko Mayor Watanabe Hideyuki told reporters on Thursday that the town plans to install a stronger screen to prevent holes from being made. The mayor added the town is considering using a different color such as blue or green for a better image.
