A: Hey there! Heard anything interesting lately? B: Not much, just the usual. What's up? A: So, there was this earthquake off Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula early Sunday morning. B: Oh really? Did it cause any trouble? A: Well, it was quite a big one - 7.4 on the scale! It happened at about 6:49 a.m. UTC. B: Whoa, that's pretty strong! Any tsunami warnings? A: Yeah, there might be some waves in Russia, around 0.3 to 1 meter above tide level. But for places like Hawaii, the northwestern Hawaiian Islands, Midway Island, and even here in Japan, it's just less than 0.3 meters. B: Phew, that's good to know! Thanks for letting me know, buddy! ---------------- The US Geological Survey says an earthquake has struck off the coast of Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula. The quake occurred at around 6:49 a.m. UTC on Sunday. The USGS says it struck at a depth of 20 kilometers with an estimated magnitude of 7.4. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii says tsunami waves between 0.3 and one meter above tide level are possible in some parts of Russia. It also forecasts waves of less than 0.3 meters above tide level for Hawaii, the northwestern Hawaiian Islands, Midway Island and Japan.
