The European Union has announced a fresh round of sanctions against Russia, including a ban on primary aluminum imports.
EU foreign ministers adopted the package at a meeting in Belgium on Monday, the third anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
The ban on imports of aluminum, which is an important source of revenue for Russia, will come into full effect one year later.
The package includes restrictions on exports of video game controllers -- which officials say are "used by the Russian army to pilot drones on the battlefield."
It also listed 74 vessels of the so-called shadow fleet, which it says help evade sanctions and contribute to Russia's energy revenues. Officials say this brings the total number of designated vessels to 153.
The EU said in a statement that the sanctions are aimed at putting Ukraine in the strongest position possible.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said at a summit meeting in Kyiv on Monday that Ukraine will receive a new payment of 3.5 billion euros from the EU.
Von der Leyen said, "the war in Ukraine remains the most central and consequential crisis for Europe's future," adding, "so our first priority remains to empower Ukraine's resistance."
