Zelenskyy to replace Ukraine's ambassador to Japan NHK

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Saturday that he will replace Sergiy Korsunsky as the country's ambassador to Japan. A successor has yet to be announced.

On Friday, Zelenskyy approved the appointments of more than 30 new ambassadors, including the envoys to China and Lithuania.

Korsunsky was named ambassador to Japan in 2020. Since the start of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, he has been actively campaigning across Japan to garner support for his country.

In March 2022, in an interview given immediately after the invasion, Korsunsky spoke of his deep gratitude for monetary donations and flowers delivered to the embassy in Tokyo by Japanese people.

He said he was moved by the contributions, and would like to invite the donors to his country once peace is restored.

After the report of Zelenskyy's decision, Korsunsky told NHK that he will stay in Japan at least until February. Speaking partially in Japanese, the ambassador thanked the Japanese public for their support.
