Japan's Prime Minister Kishida Fumio will soon be heading for the Group of Seven summit meeting in Italy. Kishida will depart from Tokyo's Haneda Airport on Wednesday afternoon. The summit opens on Thursday in Puglia, southern Italy. The G7 leaders are expected to discuss regional issues, including Ukraine, the Middle East and the Indo-Pacific. Economic security, artificial intelligence, climate change and other topics are also likely on the agenda. Kishida hopes to lead the talks and convey Japan's actions and positions, following the achievements of the G7 summit in Hiroshima last year. Regarding Ukraine, Kishida will explain Japan's stance on the handling of Russian assets frozen by Western sanctions and ways to provide assistance for Ukraine. As for economic security, Kishida aims to express his concern about overproduction in China, and stress the importance of a rules-based free and fair economic order. Kishida is scheduled to visit Switzerland on Saturday to attend an international conference that aims to realize a peace plan advocated by Ukraine.
