Tension is on the rise as Israeli forces continue attacks on Lebanon NHK

Tension has been rising amid the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, the Lebanon-based Shia Muslim group. Israeli forces conducted airstrikes on the Lebanese capital of Beirut and the country's south through Thursday.

The Israeli military announced on Wednesday night that it had conducted an airstrike on Beirut. Lebanon's health authorities say nine people were killed in the attack.

An Arab media outlet says the attack hit an apartment in a district that is not an area where Hezbollah is based.

The Israeli military also said its airstrike on a Hezbollah base in southern Lebanon, where it was conducting a ground operation, killed around 15 Hezbollah fighters.

Meanwhile, Lebanese health officials said on Wednesday that Israeli air raids killed 46 people, injuring 85 in a day across the country. They said Israeli forces conducted 134 air attacks over two days.

Officials also said, since fighting began between Israel and Hamas in October last year, more than 1,900 people have died in Lebanon amid the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, which has shown solidarity with Hamas.

They said the total number of displaced people has risen to nearly 1.2 million.
