Tesla challenges EU tariffs on China-made EVs NHK

US electric-vehicle giant Tesla is challenging additional European Union tariffs of up to 35.3 percent on EVs produced in China.

Tesla has filed a lawsuit against the European Commission at the Court of Justice of the European Union, as these levies also apply to EVs built in China by Western automakers and shipped to the EU.

The European Commission started imposing the additional tariffs last October, on top of a 10 percent levy previously in place.

The Commission has said Chinese EVs are getting unfair subsidies from Beijing and could hurt European companies.

The EU side says it is prepared to defend its case in court.
