The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency says Iran has not produced or accumulated uranium that is enriched to a level close to weapons grade. IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi visited Iran on Friday and Saturday to discuss the country's nuclear development. His visit came after the IAEA's latest report said uranium particles enriched to a purity of 83.7 percent were detected in samples collected in January at the Fordow nuclear site in central Iran. Enrichment levels of 90 percent or higher are reportedly required to make nuclear weapons. Iranian officials claim unintended fluctuations in enrichment levels may have occurred at the site. Iran says that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes. Speaking to reporters on Monday, Grossi stated that there has not been any production or accumulation of uranium at the higher enrichment level. He said the agency will continue to investigate the matter and the results of his visit will be reported at the meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors that is currently taking place in Vienna. Attention is now focused on how the IAEA governors will assess the state of Iran's nuclear development and what they will discuss.
