The Lebanon-based Shia militant group Hezbollah said on Monday that a senior member was killed in an Israeli attack, as Israel's forces step up their offensive in the neighboring country.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who was meeting military units in the country's north, said Hezbollah are making a serious mistake.

He expressed his determination to continue operations against the Islamic group, saying Israel will do whatever it takes to restore security in the north.

Fears are growing that the Israeli military's extended operations could escalate the fighting in the Gaza Strip into a wider regional conflict.

Israel's ground and air offensives continued in Gaza on Monday.

The Israeli military announced that it had targeted 30 Hamas locations, including weapons storage facilities, in the southern city of Khan Younis. The military also said it had killed multiple fighters with the Islamic group.

Local Palestinian media reported that the Maghazi refugee camp in central Gaza had also been heavily bombarded.

Health authorities in the strip said on Monday that 249 people had died over the past 24 hours, bringing the death toll in the enclave since the current conflict began to 23,084.
