Japan's Prime Minister Kishida Fumio is hailing the Group of Seven summit in Hiroshima as a success. He highlighted some of the wins at a Lower House Budget Committee session on Wednesday.

Kishida said the G7 leaders aimed to send a strong message to maintain a free and open world order based on the rule of law, and to deepen ties with emerging and developing nations, collectively known as the Global South.

He added that the leaders, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, shared a common vision, and he thinks that has great historical significance.

Kishida underscored the importance of a shared vision, especially on the issue of nuclear disarmament.

He noted that the G7 leaders agreed that the threat and use of nuclear weapons by Russia is totally unacceptable. He said he thinks that common stance could offer a chance to boost momentum toward a world without nuclear weapons.

Kishida said the summit produced ideas on how to protect countries against the threat of nuclear war amid a changing security climate, and concrete steps toward that goal must now be taken.
