In Major League Baseball, the Los Angeles Dodgers have beaten the New York Yankees 7 to 6 in Game 5 to win the best-of-seven World Series. It's the Dodgers' eighth World Series title and their first in four years.

The Dodgers erased a five-run deficit the team had at one point to stun the opponents, prompting a collective sigh of Yankees fans at their home stadium in New York on Wednesday.

Japanese superstar Ohtani Shohei was the designated hitter batting first in the starting lineup despite his left shoulder injury.

In the first inning, Ohtani hit the Yankees ace Gerrit Cole's first pitch to fly out to center field.

In the bottom of the inning, Yankees slugger Aaron Judge, the American League's home run title holder, blasted a two-run homer, giving momentum to his team.

The Yankees built a five-run lead through the third inning.

But the Dodgers stormed back in the fifth to earn five runs to tie the game with RBI hits, in part helped by Yankees' fielding blunders.

After leading the game at 7 to 6, the Dodgers sent Walker Buehler to the mound in the ninth, just two days after he started Game 3 and became the winning pitcher. Buehler closed out the World Series win for the Dodgers.

Ohtani went none for four in the game. But it was his dream-come-true for the World Series title seven years after he moved to the MLB.

His Japanese teammate, Yamamoto Yoshinobu, was the winning pitcher in Game 2.

In Ohtani's home town of Oshu City in Japan's Iwate Prefecture, about 150 fans gathered at a public viewing event at the city hall.

Cheers erupted when the Dodgers sealed the victory.

A local woman in her 30s said she is really proud of Ohtani as a fellow Oshu citizen.

Another woman in her 40s, who said she went to the same junior high school as Ohtani, said she was moved to witness the moment he fulfilled his dream.

The city plans to display a banner congratulating him for the World Series victory at the city hall in November.
