Zelenskyy: Real guarantees needed for peace NHK

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has addressed his people after wrapping up visits to the United States and Britain. He has continued to stress the importance of achieving real security.

In the video of the speech released on Monday, Zelenskyy referred to the meeting in London on Sunday, attended by leaders from Europe, Canada and Turkey.

He said: "Everyone is united on the main point. For peace to be real, real security guarantees are needed. There will be diplomacy for peace, and the sake of all of us standing together, Ukraine, the whole of Europe, and necessarily America."

He said European countries will shape their common positions and the lines they must achieve, and the lines they cannot compromise on. He added those positions will be presented to the US.

While Zelenskyy expressed gratitude for the US support, US President Donald Trump continued to rail against him and his European allies.

"I just think he should be more appreciative because this county has stuck with them through thick and thin. We've given them much more than Europe. And Europe should have given more than us," Trump told reporters on Monday. He said if someone doesn't want to make a deal, that person won't be around very long.

Trump also posted on social media that "America will not put up with it for much longer." He says the Europeans stated at the meeting that "they cannot do the job without the US."
