Iran to discuss with China, Russia 'snapback' threat from European nations NHK

A: Hey there, any news from back home?
B: Nah, just the usual. But you heard about Iran's talks with China and Russia?

A: Oh yeah! Seems like they're discussing a move by three European countries to bring back some UN sanctions.
B: Really? What happened?

A: Well, Britain, France, and Germany suggested a thing called "snapback" that would re-impose sanctions from the 2015 nuclear deal. Iran wants to discuss ways to stop this or limit its impact.
B: Wow, sounds intense! Talks with these three have been stalled since June due to some attacks on Iran's nuclear facilities, right?

A: Exactly! And it seems like Iran is trying to strengthen ties with China and Russia ahead of their negotiations with the Europeans.

Iran's government plans to discuss with China and Russia a threat by three European countries to re-impose UN Security Council sanctions that were lifted under the 2015 nuclear deal.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei on Monday said the three-way working-level talks will take place in Tehran on Tuesday.

Britain, France and Germany suggested that they might trigger the so-called "snapback" mechanism that would re-impose sanctions lifted under the 2015 agreement. The spokesperson says they would discuss countermeasures in a bid to prevent the mechanism from being triggered, or minimize its possible consequences.

Nuclear negotiations between the United States and Iran have been stalled since Israel and the US attacked nuclear facilities in Iran in June. The European nations' move to keep up pressure on Iran is seen as part of efforts to restart the stalled talks.

Iran is apparently trying to highlight its ties with China and Russia -- which were among the parties to the 2015 deal -- ahead of its scheduled negotiations with the three European countries on Friday.
Summary
Iran's government is set to discuss countermeasures with China and Russia against a potential move by Germany, France, and Britain to re-impose UN sanctions from the 2015 nuclear deal. This decision follows stalled nuclear negotiations between the US and Iran due to attacks on Iranian facilities.
