Hezbollah confirms leader Nasrallah died in Israel airstrike NHK

The Lebanon-based Shia Muslim group Hezbollah has confirmed that its leader Hassan Nasrallah died in an Israeli airstrike. The killing of the leader has spiked military tensions in the Middle East.

The Israel Defense Forces said Nasrallah was killed in its airstrike on Friday, targeting Hezbollah's headquarters in a suburb of the Lebanese capital, Beirut.

An IDF spokesperson said Nasrallah was inside the underground headquarters at the time of the attack.

Citing an expert, the Associated Press reported that in the attack a Bunker Buster bomb may have been used, which is specifically designed for penetrating subterranean targets.

Israeli forces continue to strike Hezbollah targets in Lebanon.

Earlier this month, the IDF expanded its list of military goals to include a response to Hezbollah.

A large number of people across Lebanon have been killed in a wave of fierce Israeli airstrikes that began on September 23.

Hezbollah said in a statement that it will continue its battle against Israel, supporting Gaza and Palestine and defending Lebanon and its steadfast and honorable people.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei issued a statement saying all the resistance forces of the region are with Hezbollah.
