People in Japan are leaving flowers at a temporary memorial in Tokyo for the 156 victims of the crowd crush in an alleyway in the South Korean capital, Seoul. On Thursday, about 20 Korean and Japanese people visited the memorial, which is in Shinjuku Ward inside an office of the Federation of Korean Associations, Japan -- an organization of Korean people in Japan. Two young Japanese women were among the victims of Saturday's deadly crush in the Itaewon nightlife district. A Japanese woman in her 50s was among the people who laid flowers in Tokyo. She said she found the tragedy heartbreaking as she has a son in his 20s. Hong Seong-hyeop, vice chairman of the Federation of Korean Associations, Japan, said his organization set up the memorial so Korean residents and Japanese people could mourn the victims of the crush together. He said he was heartbroken that so many young people had died and that two of them were Japanese who had loved South Korea and wanted to realize their dreams. The Federation says people will be able to lay flowers at the memorial until Saturday.
