Japanese telecom giants NTT and KDDI plan to collaborate in developing next-generation optical networking technologies. The rival firms aim to acquire a global standard for the 6G mobile system. NTT has been developing the next-generation network called IOWN, or Innovative Optical and Wireless Network. By around 2030, NTT aims to increase the volume of communication 125-fold compared with the 4G standard while reducing power consumption to one percent. Informed sources say that based on this technology, the two companies plan to sign a joint development partnership soon. Developers of next-generation telecom technologies face the challenges of realizing massive data exchanges while reducing power consumption. This is the first time the two companies will team up in the field of telecom technologies, raising hopes for the creation of a new optical technology.
