The New York Times says the total number of its subscribers has passed the 10 million mark for the first time, fueled by digital subscriptions. The US newspaper on Wednesday released its financial report for the July-September quarter. The number of digital-only subscribers at the end of September reached 9.41 million, adding 210,000 in three months. With 670,000 print subscribers, the newspaper overall had 10.08 million. Total revenues for the third quarter amounted to 598.3 million dollars, up 9.3 percent compared to the third quarter of the previous year. The company's net profit was 53.6 million dollars, up 46 percent year-on-year. The newspaper industry faces a challenging environment due to stagnant ad income. The New York Times aims to boost average revenue per user by encouraging subscribers to sign up for more than one type of content. The offerings include games and recipes. The company hopes to increase the number of subscribers to 15 million by the end of 2027.
