South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol has ordered a joint response with Japan and the United States to North Korea's launches of intercontinental ballistic missiles, by using the countries' missile information sharing system. The Joint Chiefs of Staff announced on Monday that North Korea fired a long-range missile from in or around Pyongyang area towards the Sea of Japan at 8:24 a.m. The South Korean presidential office convened an emergency meeting of the National Security Council to discuss its response. The meeting condemned North Korea for seriously threatening the peace and security of the Korean Peninsula and the international community with last month's launch of a military spy satellite and Monday's launch of an ICBM powered by solid fuel. In April and July this year, North Korea test-fired the solid fuel ICBM-class Hwasong-18, which can be launched quicker than liquid fuel missiles. South Korean experts say North Korea's latest test-firing is aimed at completing the missile's development. The South Korean military on Monday warned North Korea to immediately halt reckless and provocative actions. It also said North Korea will be held entirely accountable for future consequences from those actions.
