China trade fair seeks to shore up slumping exports NHK

A massive trade fair is underway in China, as the world's second-largest economy looks to shore up sagging exports.

About 28,000 firms are pitching their wares at one of the country's largest trade fairs, which opened on Sunday in Guangdong Province.

Chinese firms are facing a difficult business environment. Turmoil in the property market is hurting domestic demand, and exports are down.

Another manufacturer said Chinese firms face trying times, and they have no choice but to rely on exports.

Organizers of the fair expect over 100,000 foreign buyers from Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Europe and elsewhere.
