Lebanese state media say a US special envoy arrived in Beirut on Tuesday for expected talks on a US proposal for a ceasefire between Israel and the Lebanese Shia Muslim group Hezbollah.
The United States submitted a truce proposal to Lebanon last week. Hezbollah has reportedly conveyed their response to the Lebanese government.
A Middle Eastern media outlet reported that Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati said his country was positive about the US proposal, but that discussions are needed on some points. Mikati said he wants to discuss the issue with US envoy Amos Hochstein.
Intense fighting between Israel and Hezbollah continued on Tuesday. Lebanese media reported five people were killed in an airstrike in Beirut on Monday.
The Lebanese government said 3,516 people have so far died in Israeli attacks.
Hezbollah also continues to attack Israel. The Israeli military said it detected projectiles crossing from Lebanon into northern and central Israel on Tuesday. Israeli authorities said four people were injured in central Israel.
