Sendai City in northeastern Japan is hosting a three-day event where experts on disaster preparedness and risk reduction are discussing measures for the future.
        
                    
                  
The city was affected by the devastating earthquake and tsunami in March 2011.
        
                    
                  
The World Bosai Forum takes its name from the Japanese word for disaster preparedness. More than 1,000 people from 34 countries will attend.
        
                    
                  
Companies and organizations are presenting activities and products such as VR goggles for experiencing an earthquake and tsunami, and foldable helmets that are easy to carry.
        
                    
                  
Experts from the Philippines, Australia and Japan exchanged views on ways to recover from major disasters on Friday. Their countries are all prone to typhoons, wildfires, floods or earthquakes.
        
                    
                  
Sujit Mohanty of the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction said the forum is very significant for bringing experts, scientists, academic institutions and governments together to &quot;really learn from each other.&quot;
        
                    
                  
Ono Yuichi, the founder and CEO of the World Bosai Forum Foundation, pointed out that Japan received a lot of international donations and contributions in 2011. He also said he would like to share Japan&#039;s experience with the rest of the world in return.
        
                    
                  
The event runs through Sunday.
