Health authorities in Gaza reported on Thursday that 81 people died in the Strip over the past 24 hours, pushing up the death toll there to over 30,000 since the fighting started last year. The health authorities announced that 30,035 people had died as of Wednesday. Qatar-based Al Jazeera reported on Thursday that the Israeli military attacked people waiting for relief supplies in the northern city of Gaza, causing many casualties. There seems to be no end to the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza. The UN agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, says, "February registered a 50 percent reduction of humanitarian aid entering Gaza compared to January." Reuters news agency and US news website Axios reported on Wednesday that the US government is considering airdropping relief supplies in Gaza. The Jordanian Air Force conducted airdrops in the enclave on Monday. But Axios quoted US officials as admitting that "aid airdrops will have a limited effect since a military plane can only drop the amount of supplies equivalent to that transported by one or two trucks." They noted that the top priority is to increase relief delivery by land. Mediators including Qatar continue talks for a ceasefire, as they work toward a truce and possible release of hostages. But no deal has been reached yet, and the outlook for negotiations remains uncertain.
