YouTube has agreed to pay 24.5 million dollars to settle a lawsuit filed by US President Donald Trump over his suspension from the video-sharing platform. Trump and other parties sued Google-owned YouTube in July 2021 claiming the platform was trying to silence their freedom of speech. His account had been blocked following the attacks on the US Capitol in January the same year. Court documents presented on Monday show that Google's parent company, Alphabet, will pay the settlement money, of which Trump will receive 22 million dollars. Most is to be spent on building a ballroom in the White House. Meta, which owns Facebook, and X -- formerly Twitter -- have already settled similar lawsuits filed by Trump after he was suspended from their platforms. The Wall Street Journal reported that, "Trump has raked in more than $80 million in settlements stemming from lawsuits he has brought against Big Tech and media companies," since he won last fall's election.
