Japan has provided Ukraine with rehabilitation equipment and welfare vehicles to support senior citizens and people with disabilities. The items will be delivered to 11 facilities in the Kyiv region through the Japan International Cooperation Agency. A handover ceremony was held in the capital on Tuesday. The rehabilitation equipment uses electrical current to help patients recover muscle strength or alleviate pain. Users will include people with impaired motor functions. More than 300,000 military personnel and civilians in Ukraine are estimated to have become disabled since Russia's invasion of the country began. Worsening living conditions for those with disabilities have become a major challenge, as budget shortfalls have prevented officials from replacing old medical equipment. In the Kyiv region, the number of people with disabilities has risen by 14,000 since the invasion began. They include evacuees from regions close to the frontlines. The region's governor, Ruslan Kravchenko, expressed gratitude for the support from the government and people of Japan. He said the living environment of people with disabilities will significantly improve. Japanese Ambassador to Ukraine Nakagome Masashi said Japan will continue to provide assistance to enable swift rehabilitation of wounded soldiers and citizens, and reduce the hardships they face in their daily life.
