Midterm election results in the United States are continuing to trickle in. The Republicans had hoped frustration over record-high inflation would fuel a red wave that decimates Democratic support in Congress. Votes are being counted across the country, but it remains too early to tell whether President Joe Biden's party will lose House and the Senate.

The Senate has 100 seats. A third is up for grabs. Around 3 p.m. Japan time, America's ABC news reported that the Democrats are certain to win New Hampshire, and the Republicans secured Ohio. It said both are projected to secure 46 seats each.

In the House of Representatives, now leaning red, all 435 seats are up for grabs. The AP reported that the Democrats are so far projected to secure 141 seats and the Republicans, 179. A majority is 218.

Voters went into the election with a lot on their minds from rising prices to abortion rights, and the fate of democracy itself.

For President Joe Biden, it is also a referendum on his leadership. He knows that losing control of either chamber will make his work harder.

Former President Donald Trump is also keeping a keen eye on the results. The outcome of the candidates he endorsed could say a lot about his influence, as he mulls another run at the White House.
