Two people were injured in separate attacks by bears in Akita Prefecture on Monday, adding to a string of incidents in northeastern Japan involving the animals.
A man in his 60s was reportedly attacked and injured by a bear on the grounds of his home in Akita City early on Monday morning.
Police say the roughly one-meter-long animal then left the scene with a smaller bear.
A man in his 80s was injured in another bear attack later in the day while he was walking in a mountain forest in neighboring Daisen City.
Bear attacks in Akita Prefecture have killed three people and injured more than 50 others so far this year. A bear warning has been issued for all parts of the prefecture.
In Miyagi Prefecture, people are shying away from a leisure facility due to increasing damage by bears and more bear sightings.
The facility in Shiroishi City usually draws many campers at this time of year.
But visitors are down about 30 percent from a year earlier. Its operator says about 20 reservations have been canceled since September.
The facility has taken measures to keep bears away, including closing a part of it near a mountain, and setting up electric fences around a pool holding trout.
The facility's owner says he hopes people will return after the turmoil caused by bears subsides.
