Russia's drone attacks kill 2 and injure 8 in southern Ukraine NHK

Russian missile and drone attacks have killed or wounded 13 civilians in Ukraine's south and east.

The Ukrainian air force says Russia attacked eastern and southern Ukraine between Friday and Saturday, launching three missiles and 17 drones.

Ukraine says it shot down 14 of the drones, but an apartment building and other facilities in the southern region of Odesa were hit.

Ukraine's State Emergency Service says two people were killed, and eight, including a three-year-old infant, were injured.

It says three people were injured and carried to hospital in the eastern Kharkiv region.

Ukraine's Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi posted on social media that he had heard reports from the commander of an eastern front-line unit. He said the situation remains difficult but is under control.

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday signed a decree to send reservists into military training.

The US think tank Institute for the Study of War says "Russian authorities will likely use annual combat training for reservists to support crypto-mobilization efforts."
