Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says Russia used more than 2,000 drones last month to attack his country. He called on the international community to step up sanctions against Moscow to prevent it from producing drones.

Ukrainian authorities say debris of intercepted Russian drones fell in six districts of the capital Kyiv on Saturday, causing fires and breaking windows at multiple housing complexes.

Zelenskyy said in a televised speech on Saturday that drones were used against Ukraine literally every single day in October.

He said the number of drones means that more than 170,000 components that should have been blocked were supplied to Russia.

Zelenskyy said this brings the world back to the need to work much harder to control the export of special components and resources.

Some observers say the Russian military may be seeking to put pressure on Ukrainians ceaselessly with the drone attacks.

Ukraine has been asking the West to allow it to use weapons with longer firing ranges so that Kyiv can attack military bases inside Russia to prevent its drone attacks.
