South Korea&#039;s presidential office says President Yoon Suk-yeol is scheduled to meet Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio on the sidelines of a two-day NATO summit that opens in Lithuania on Tuesday.
                
The presidential office made the announcement on Sunday.
                
Yoon and Kishida are expected to discuss Japan&#039;s plan to release treated and diluted water from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant into the ocean.
                
The South Korean government says it respects the results of the International Atomic Energy Agency&#039;s review of the plan.
                
The IAEA on Tuesday issued a report that says Japan&#039;s plan is consistent with international safety standards.
                
South Korea said on Friday that its own study shows the plan would meet international safety standards if the process is carried out as planned.
                
The South Korean government has stressed that it places top priority on the health and safety of its people.
                
Water used to cool molten nuclear fuel at the Fukushima Daiichi plant mixes with rain and groundwater. The accumulated water is treated to remove most radioactive substances, but still contains tritium.
                
Before releasing the water into the ocean, the Japanese government plans to dilute the water to reduce the level of tritium to about one-seventh of the World Health Organization&#039;s guidelines for drinking water quality.
