Negotiations for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip are facing difficulties as Israel and the Islamic group Hamas remain apart on issues including the extent of Israel&#039;s military presence.
                
Israel and Hamas are continuing working-level talks in Egypt, which is mediating the negotiations. The talks are likely focusing on the conditions for the release of hostages and the extent of the Israeli troops&#039; withdrawal from Gaza.
                
But a significant gap remains between Israel, which insists on maintaining its troops in areas like the southern border with Egypt even after a ceasefire, and Hamas, which strongly opposes this.
                
A senior Hamas member said on Monday that the group will not accept the conditions that Israel has added to the previous proposal.
