One month to go before Indonesia's presidential election NHK

There's less than a month to go before Indonesia's presidential election. Candidates are bidding to take the reins of Southeast Asia's largest economy.

It's a three-way race between former Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan, Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto and Ganjar Pranowo, the former governor of Central Java.

The incumbent, Joko Widodo, enjoys high approval ratings on the back of his growth and infrastructure policies, but the Constitution bars him from running for a third term. The focus of the race is whether to continue Joko's policies or revamp them.

With more than half the voters in this election aged between 17 and 40, candidates are bending over backwards to capture the youth vote.

Videos of Prabowo doing his trademark funky dance have gone viral on social media channels, hashtagged "cute."

Anies posts videos of him with his pet cats, hoping they make voters purr.

Ganjar posts videos of his visits to people's homes to show how he's keen to learn about their everyday concerns.

The latest opinion poll, released on Thursday, shows Prabowo and his running mate, Joko's eldest son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, leading on just under 46 percent.
