At least 10 people have died and two remain missing on the Indonesian island of Java, where torrential rains since last week have triggered landslides and flash floods. Rescue workers are still searching for survivors. Local officials said the disaster in West Java province has devastated about 170 villages and forced over 3,000 people to flee. Schools are being used as temporary shelters. Authorities have warned nearly 1000 more people to evacuate as threats from extreme weather continue. Seasonal rain from October to March frequently causes flooding and landslides in Indonesia. Last month, a deluge hit the island of Sumatra, leaving 20 dead and two missing.
