Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio has arrived in Ottawa to hold talks with his Canadian counterpart, Justin Trudeau. Kishida is currently on a tour of France, Italy, Britain, Canada and the United States, ahead of the Group of Seven summit in Hiroshima slated for May. Canada is the fourth designation of the tour. Kishida will meet Trudeau on Thursday, local time. He intends to share views on Russia's aggression in Ukraine and other global challenges such as food and energy issues. He plans to ask for cooperation to make the G7 summit a success. Kishida will also seek Canada's understanding for Japan's new national security strategy, which was approved by the government last month. He plans to explain that Japan is trying to drastically bolster its defense capabilities to protect an international order based on the rule of law. Kishida is expected to tell Trudeau that Japan welcomes the new Indo-Pacific strategy that Canada unveiled last year. The document describes China as an increasingly disruptive global power. The two leaders are expected to reaffirm cooperation between Japan and Canada to realize a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
