Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva has been handed a four-year ban for doping by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, or CAS.
Valieva won gold for the Russian Olympic Committee in the team competition at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. It later came to light that she had tested positive for the banned substance trimetazidine at the Russian national championships in December 2021.
The ban imposed on her by CAS on Monday is backdated to December 25, 2021. The tribunal also ordered the disqualification of "all competitive results" achieved by Valieva since December 25, 2021.
CAS said Valieva can "file an appeal to the Swiss Federal Tribunal within 30 days on limited grounds."
