US announces additional military aid to Ukraine as funding could run out NHK

The United States says it is providing up to 250 million dollars' worth of further military assistance for Ukraine's fight against Russia. But US funding is expected to run out without further approval by Congress.

The year's final package announced on Wednesday includes more munitions for National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile Systems, or NASAMS, and High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems, or HIMARS. It also includes Stinger anti-aircraft missiles.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a statement, "It is imperative that Congress act swiftly, as soon as possible, to advance our national security interests by helping Ukraine defend itself and secure its future."

In Congress, Republicans and Democrats have been unable to agree on an emergency spending bill to continue military assistance to Ukraine. White House National Security Council Spokesperson John Kirby warns that US aid for Ukraine could run out by the end of the year.
