China's President Xi to visit Russia for Victory Day ceremony NHK

Chinese President Xi Jinping will visit Russia for four days starting Wednesday and participate in celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the former Soviet Union's victory over Nazi Germany in World War Two.

He is expected to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin to reaffirm the bilateral alliance. US-China trade friction is intensifying under the US President Donald Trump's administration.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Sunday that Xi will attend the celebrations in Moscow on May 9.

The ministry said the two countries unequivocally oppose acts of unilateralism and bullying, and jointly promote an equal and orderly multipolar world and a universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalization.

The two leaders are expected to exchange opinions on the situation in Ukraine, in which the United States is brokering peace.

This will be the first summit between Xi and Putin since they met on the sidelines of the BRICS summit held in Russia in October.
