Trade ministers from the Group of Seven nations are set to discuss how to address economic coercion amid China's growing economic influence. The ministers are starting their two-day meeting in the western Japanese prefecture of Osaka on Saturday. Japan's Foreign Minister Kamikawa Yoko and Economy, Trade and Industry Minister Nishimura Yasutoshi are among the participants. The main agenda items of the meeting will include economic coercion, which is a practice used to put pressure on partner countries by restricting trade and raising tariffs. Japan plans to express concerns over China's suspension of Japanese seafood imports following the release of treated and diluted water from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant into the sea. It plans to argue that the measure lacks scientific evidence and call for a united response by other G7 countries for its removal. Trade ministers from India, Australia and other countries, as well as representatives of international organizations have been invited to attend sessions in a bid to strengthen cooperation beyond the G7. Also on the agenda will be strengthening supply chains of semiconductors, lithium and other critical minerals, as well as reform of the World Trade Organization. The results of the discussions are expected to be compiled as a ministers' statement on Sunday.
