A US think tank says continuing to provide military aid to Ukraine is far more advantageous and cheaper for the United States than allowing Ukraine to lose. The Institute for the Study of War on Thursday issued a statement titled "The High Price of Losing Ukraine, Military-Strategic and Financial Implications of Russian Victory." It noted the Ukrainian military, with Western support, has destroyed nearly 90 percent of the Russian army that invaded in February 2022. But it said, "the Russians have replaced those manpower losses and are ramping up their industrial base to make good their material losses at a rate much faster than their pre-war capacity had permitted." It added, "A Russian conquest of all of Ukraine is by no means impossible if the United States cuts off all military assistance and Europe follows suit." The institute noted that in case of a full Russian victory, the US will have to defend Europe and Eastern Europe against a renewed Russian threat. It said the US will have to deploy a sizable portion of its ground forces and a large number of military aircraft to Eastern Europe and that such measures will cost a fortune. The institute issued the statement amid slow progress in extending support to Ukraine due to a lack of consensus among the US ruling and opposition parties.
