A: Hey there! Guess what happened over the weekend? B: No, what's up? A: So, they set a new world record for the largest Bon dance at the 2025 World Expo in Osaka! B: Really? That sounds amazing! A: Yeah, it was part of "Osaka week" and people from 62 countries joined in. Can you believe it? B: Wow, that's quite a turnout! A: Exactly! They danced to the expo's official theme song while wearing traditional summer kimonos or ethnic costumes. B: I wonder how long they had to dance for to break the record... A: Well, they needed to perform a choreographed dance for more than five minutes, but they danced for ten! So cool! B: That's impressive! It looks like they really broke it by quite a margin. A: Indeed, they beat the previous record set in Yao City in 2017 by over a thousand people! B: And not just the number of participants, but also the variety of nationalities involved broke another Guinness World Record too! A: That's right! A local participant said she felt almost moved to tears seeing so many people come together for this performance. B: It must have been a fantastic sight! And it sounds like the participants really enjoyed themselves, too. A: One guy from Okayama Prefecture said he was able to dance well by just following along with the others. B: Looks like everyone had a great time! I can't wait to see what they do next year at the Expo! ---------------- Dancers set a new Guinness World Record for the largest Bon dance on Saturday at the 2025 World Expo in Osaka. The event was held as part of "Osaka week" and brought together 3,946 people from 62 countries for the record-breaking traditional Japanese dance. Participants dressed in summer kimono known as yukata and ethnic costumes danced to the expo's official theme song. To be certified by Guinness, more than 90 percent of the participants needed to perform a choreographed dance for more than five minutes. All the participants met the criteria by dancing for ten minutes. The new record for the largest Bon dance exceeded the previous one by more than 1,000 people set in Yao City in Osaka Prefecture in 2017. The number of participants' nationalities also broke a Guinness World Record. A local participant said it was great that so many people came together for the performance, and she was almost moved to tears.
