Narita spring holiday international traveler count recovering NHK

The number of travelers who used Narita Airport near Tokyo for international flights during the recent spring holiday has recovered to about half the pre-pandemic level.

Preliminary data from the Narita Airport branch of the Tokyo Regional Immigration Services Bureau show that more than 566,000 left or entered Japan via the airport during the 10-day period from April 28 through May 7.

About 376,000 were foreigners and about 190,000 were Japanese passengers.

The most popular destination was South Korea at 19 percent, followed by the United States and Taiwan.

More than 1.09 million people used Narita Airport for international flights during the 11-day spring holiday period in 2019.

The figure dropped by 99 percent the next year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
