Suicide bombing kills 6 in Afghanistan NHK

A suicide attack in Afghanistan's capital Kabul has killed at least six people and injured 13 others.

A police spokesperson said a man detonated explosives strapped to his body in the southwest of the city on Monday afternoon. The Taliban have cordoned off the site of the attack and intensified security in the area.

No one has claimed responsibility so far, but the terrorist group ISIS-K regularly targets civilians, foreigners, Taliban officials, and the minority Shia community.

In April, gunmen stormed a Shia mosque in the western city of Herat, killing at least five people. Islamic State militants reportedly claimed responsibility.

The security situation in Afghanistan has largely improved since the Taliban took power in August 2021 following the withdrawal of US forces. But terrorist attacks are still frequent occurrences.
